Print Digital:- setting new standards for digital print.
A research project initiated by The Royal College of Art
Mission Statement:
‘Can we look forward to a future where the most prestigious print based work will be the domain of the digital presses, printing objects of beauty on demand for the most discerning audience?’
In recent months, The Royal College of Art (led by Russell Warren-Fisher) has set out to discuss the relationships that exists between the ‘creative practitioner’ and the digital print process; the function of the printed page and the potential future role of ink on paper. The findings of this study will conclude with a limited edition publication and exhibition that serves to illustrate ideas around the theme of experimental digital print for both commercial and private practice. Much of the final publication will be produced by Ripe Digital Limited on the HP Indigo Press and will feature original works by internationally renown artists and designers. Throughout the research, the emphasis has been placed on experimental printing and the concept of the ‘original copy’. Inevitably many of the the final digital prints will be unique and unrepeatable (due to the processes involved) and will therefore render each copy of the limited edition publication a true one off.
The book will be exhibited in a dedicated show in The SEA gallery, 70 St John Street, London EC1M 4D later this year.
NB. Additional details of the final publication together with the opening dates of the exhibition to follow.
